No Talent?
Think Again
Every great performance starts somewhere.
Most people don’t discover their talents overnight. They find them through curiosity, practice, and a willingness to try something new.
Wherever you're starting, you're in the right place.
So you're feeling a bit nervous. Maybe you have a hidden talent just waiting to be shared, but stage fright keeps holding you back. Maybe you love performing but can't decide which act to bring. Or maybe you aren't sure you have a talent at all; you just know you want to be part of something creative.
Don't stress. We've got you.
Your guide to breaking a leg... figuratively. This is fun! Blue Springs Got Talent is meant to be an outlet for community artists to showcase their talents. It is not intended to be stressful or nerve-wracking. If you are teetering on a wave of uncertainty right now, we are providing some tips that could help turn that unease into ambition.
Walk on stage as you belong there.
Walk into the audition like you deserve to be there. Because you do. Confidence can be hard to build, but "fake it til you make it" doesn't only have a nice ring to it, it truly works.
Don't put on a mask.
It may sound contradictory, but don't put on a show; be authentically you. This show is about celebrating our community and its differences. Judges may remember a great performance, but they'll never forget an authentic one.
Let your talents do the talking.
You don't have to convince anyone you're talented. That's what your performance is for. Focus on sharing something you genuinely enjoy, and your excitement will speak louder than any introduction ever could.
Be excited. Remember to have fun.
Again, this is fun! Have fun and be excited to meet people, share your talents, and be a member of the Blue Springs community.
A positive mindset overrules a negative one.
Don't spend your energy convincing yourself why you shouldn't audition. Spend it showing everyone why you should. Stay positive, because at Blue Springs Got Talent, we're half-glass-full kind of people.
Messing up doesn't mean starting over.
Every performer forgets a lyric, misses a beat, or has a moment where things don't go according to plan. That doesn't mean they need to start over; it means you make adjustments and keep going.
Seek feedback from others.
If you're unsure of what your talent may be, ask your family or friends. Everyone has a special something, and if you don't notice it, others do.
It's all about leaving an impression.
When you're thinking about how you want to perform, or what talent will help you put your best foot forward, think about what will leave an impression. The performances people remember are usually the ones that feel genuine, joyful, or unexpected. Don't chase perfection—create a moment people will smile about on the drive home.
You don't have to be perfect. You just have to start.
The hardest part is saying "yes" to yourself. Whether you're singing, dancing, juggling, playing an instrument, telling jokes, or showing off a talent nobody's ever seen before, we can't wait to cheer you on.
